Treasure Coast Dive Forecast – June 2013

Summer is here so get out and go diving. The water is warming up to the low eighties so comfort is at its best. Visibility is now coming around in the Treasure Coast area to forty to one hundred feet. While grouper season started out slow, I was diving recently and saw four very nice blacks. Of course I was with students at the time and did not have my speargun with me. Cobia are still hanging around with their friends in slightly deeper water than last month. In the area around Jupiter and Stuart, some tremendous hogfish have been taken. It has been some time since we have seen them this large. Nearshore, the visibility is still fair to poor for all of you “from the beach” diving folks, sorry. The beach renourishment project is not helping that situation or being kind to the local juvenile fish species. Not a fishing issue, but just a neat fact is that sawfish are being observed around the St. Lucie Inlet. Fishing has been great and diving is fabulous. We are running boats out of Jupiter, as well as Stuart. So, figure out a way to get out on and under the water. As always you are welcome to come diving with us as we will be looking for you under the boat.
