[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he weather is hot and the water is warm, making it the best time of the year to be a land based angler. So many choices in May spawning snook, tarpon, permit, trout, redfish, and big jacks. Big snook will being moving on the beach and this will be the last time before season closes June 1st to keep a legal size snook.

The public pier at Jensen Beach Causeway will be hot spot for big snook feeding on big bunker schools that have moved in. Best time will be night and early morning with a high tide. Cast net some bunker and put them out; they will not last long. Snook will also be in the inlets and around bridges as well. Night time and early morning are your best bets.

Permit will also make an appearance along beaches, with Walton Rocks Beach being your best bet to hook up. Early morning you will see these guys feeding on bait on the shoreline reef. The best thing to use will be a shrimp tip up jig head just thrown in front of the permit. Twitch and hold on. Use 30-pouond leader and a one-ounce jig head. You can also use a feather jig.

Big red fish will be in inlets like Fort Pierce. Get some live mullet or greenies and use a knocker rig cast into the middle of the inlet and wait for the hit. You might have to move around to find the right spot.

Trout will be on the west and east banks, just use a Cajun Thunder popping cork, live shrimp and twitch. The docks from Walton Road to Midway will be a good area with high tide being the best. East Side Middle Cove will be a great spot too.

Jacks will be big, so look for some reaching over 30 pounds. So, if you see bait being busted get out your popper plug and hold on for a big fight.

Tight lines!
