It has begun! Spring is here and we’re off to a fast start. The Miss. River has been on a roller coaster. Down to 5ft last week, up to 8ft this week, but that hasn’t slowed down the fishing. Talked with a fellow captain who fished SW Pass with two other captains and all boated 100+ redfish. SW pass is good all year round but not at consistent in the spring as in the fall so always leave your options open if you choose that area. With the muddy river you will want to focus on the out side of the rocks as opposed to the inside when it’s clean.
Specks will start to show up on the flats and sandbars of Blind Bay, Redfish Bay and East Bay. First thing in the morning try some topwater action. It’s hard for big sow trout to resist that noise in the early morning. Breton Island was a hot spot last year and I don’t expect that to change for this year. The hot bait last year was live shrimp. We also had success on opening night, matrix lemon shad and shrimp creole.
Come make your own fish story to tell!
