I’ve been fishing for years!! Like most of us, I was introduced to the sport via my father down in Corpus Christi. From day one, first cast, first trip….. I was hooked. Any time my father invited me to fish I was ready. I would go to sleep early, only to toss and turn all night long waiting for the alarm to go off so I can officially get up and get dressed. Awwwwwe, those were the days.
I am still like that. Any time I get an opportunity to get on the Bay, I am more than anxious!! This is the same feeling I get from customers that call to book a guided fishing trip. I get asked all the time what does it take to become a guide? In my opinion, there are a few things that makes a “Good Guide” stand out. First, you must know your bay; Second, have fishing knowledge; Third, know how to become diverse and learn how to read the water; Forth, you need to know how to read the weather; Last but not lease, have a passion for teaching and a love for the sport of fishing. You must have the drive to wake up early, get to the boat launch before the customers get there in preparation for the days trip, and make sure the customers have the time of their lives. Doing this day in and day out as a full time guide, is very taxing on your body and your family but seeing the smiles on the face of the first time fishermen/fisherwomen, makes it all worthwhile.
