Last month was solid fishing as predicted.  The consistent feeds from the summer started to have larger fish in them! The larger fish were also plentiful for surfcasters putting in the time and effort at night as well.

My favorite part about the fall is the opportunity to go down south to Cape Cod, Rhode Island, and Connecticut for false albacore!  Last month I had the opportunity to make a trip down there and was lucky enough to catch one of those speedsters!  These fish are best caught with small metal lures like a Deadly Dick or Epoxy Lures from Hogy.  They can also be caught on soft plastics and are a blast to catch on the fly!  They are a blast to catch from a boat, super exciting to catch from a kayak, and can even be caught from shore! If you have the opportunity, take the chance to make a trip down south to try to catch one of these awesome fish.

False albacore can also be caught from the kayak, like this one caught by the author on his Hobie Revolution 13'.

The best part about last month was our 1st annual Fall Run Striper Classic held on the weekend of September 18th and 19th.  Our tournament was a catch-photo-release tournament for anglers fishing the water between Boston Harbor and the Merrimack River.   We had both a fly rod and spin rod division from both shore and boat.  We were pleased to offer prizes for winners and raffles for all participants from great companies like Costa Sunglasses, Buff USA, Cheeky Fishing, Little Harbor Boathouse, Tomo’s Tackle, Capefish Co., The Fly Pack, Mud Dog Flies, 247 Lures, Daddy Mac Lures, AFTCO, Under Armour and more!  The biggest striped bass for the tournament won a reel from Cheeky Fishing, the biggest striped bass from a kayak won a Hobie Livewell from Little Harbor Boathouse, and the biggest striped bass caught by a female angler won a brand new pair of sunglasses and gear package from Costa Sunglasses.

Fishing is not over yet! Even though the days are shorter and it’s colder out, the fish will still be around for at least the next two weeks!  The striped bass will be finishing their migration through the Boston and Boston’s North Shore this month, but you can still get them!  Just like last month, they will be traveling through in schools, so make sure you have a rod in the car and get there as much as possible before they’re gone!
