March 2016 Drake Bay Fishing Report

March 2016 Drake Bay Fishing Report by Captain Willy Atencio

The Sailfish bite in Drake Bay, CR has been red hot! Our clients are experiencing 30-40 bites a day on average. The bite is currently just about 10 miles from Caño Island. We are also catching some Big Eye and Yellow Fin Tuna by the Furuno Bank. Lucky anglers have also had the occasional shot at Blue & Black Marlin in both locations. Drake Bay is literally once of the best places in the world to consistently catch big Rooster Fish on both live bait and poppers. Once you hook into one of these monsters be prepared for on heck of a fight.

Around Caño Island we are pleased to report we are catching nice Wahoos. These fast swimming beauties will start showing in large numbers beginning in May and usually hang around for quite a few months. The reef around Caño Island also consistently produces several varieties of Snapper, including huge Cubera Snapper as well as Amberjack, Pompano and Grouper.

Until next time, tight lines
