After three years of convincing sponsors and participants, Adriana Somberg, the founder of Anglers For The Cure Research and Awareness of Prostate Cancer has started hitting home with many.  They saw this was a disease that could not be overlooked and there was no other charity event like it in the Eastern US…All about the MEN.

If you attended last year’s event, you knew it was by far a special and unique fishing event, not because of its beautiful venue, Rybovich Superyacht Marina, or endless quality prizes, but that it was about the MEN.  In 2016, Anglers For the Cure raised gross donations exceeding $65,000 (60% more than 2015) however, 2017 surpassed prior years in so many ways…

The 2017 event may have had just three more boats, but raised 20% more in gross donations (the fiscal year is not over) and had 130 generous sponsors that donated cash, products and/or services.  During the two-day event alone, almost $30,000 was raised, thanks to all the donated raffle and silent auction prizes valued at nearly $50,000.

The most important donation did not contribute cash, but created an awakening, by One Lab, a new concept in walk-in labs.  During the Captains Meeting, they set up a private area and 59 MEN STOOD IN LINE TO GET THEIR PSA SCREENINGS.  These men were proud to walk up to Adriana and show their Band-Aids; and she couldn’t have been happier.  In addition, Dr. Neil Borland, a prominent Urologist, spoke at the event about the importance of PSA Screening.

TDBank and the TD Charitable Foundation partnered again hosting a fundraiser, “BringChange”.  TD Charitable Foundation’s additional donation brought the total to $6,400 for this one-day event.  Organizers saw a lot of good in people, and participants that realized what the disease can do.

Without the help and support from all past and new sponsors, like Engel Coolers, Yellowfin, Mercury, Carey Chen, Tito’s Vodka, Canvas Designers, Salt Life Optics, Bimini Bay, Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County, HMY Yachts, Galati Yachts, Gil Media, Birdsall Marine, Taco Marine, Tow Boat USA Palm Beach, Blue Marlin Cove, Fisherman Center, Nautical Ventures, FinHolder & More, Kicker Audio, KScott Art and so many more, the event would not have been such a success. “But I couldn’t have done it without my friends/volunteers”, says Somberg, Founder & President of Anglers For The Cure.
