Lake Okeechobee has been fishing good lately, with some rain. Boating safety/running for the most part is ok but there are still some areas on the lake that you must use extreme caution when taking off and coming off plane, when in doubt idle out enough to clear the hard rock bottom areas and trim your motor up higher than you normally would.
The bass bite has been good throughout a day of fishing but you can expect the normal bite pattern for this time of year which is early morning seems to be the most active which can last until mid-morning or so, the afternoon bite is still there but fewer bites in-between (hottest temp part of the day) then can pick back up the latter part of the afternoon on into dark-thirty. This pattern is very normal for fishing this time of year, there are days you’ll catch what I call fun fish (1-4 lbs) with the bigger ones mixed in with them, then there are times you’ll catch the bigger bass but not so many smaller ones. It all depends on current, weather and wind. Areas around the lake that have been producing down south are: parts of Observation Island (shoal area); some areas around Uncle Joes and islands out from the ditch; parts of both the East/West wall; around Kreamer Island. The North end: areas close and around the Monkey box/Dyess ditch; some parts of the North shore; around Buckhead ridge and some parts of the bar. On the East-side: Some parts of J&S as well as Hendry creek areas both offshore and on the grass line.
