Pere Marquette Fishing Report: October 2014

Jeff-Hubbard-Article

Fishing the Pere Marquette River for salmon the month of September was really tough. Not a lot of fish in the system. Surprisingly we received a bunch of rain the first and second week of September along with north winds. Many anglers thought this was the recipe to get the big push into the river. Looks like this year will be a much later run, if we get a run at all. Kings that we do have in the river are very scattered throughout. The key is to cover a lot of water in the day. The trout fishing has been pretty good and there are even a few steelhead around. Steelhead fishing should get even better into November. For flies lately it’s been a mix bag of big Streamers on a Sink Tip line in the mornings while were moving from pool to pool. Tie these flies big with a lot of movement and not a lot of weight. You want to make them easy to cast. Other flies, for nymphing have been big eggs, stone flies, and leech patterns. For an up-to-date river report and fly recipes check out www.outfittersnorth.com. Hope everyone is able to get out and enjoy this wonderful season. Whether it’s on the water or in the woods. Good luck!
