Saving Ocean Life is an organization created by kids for kids. SOL was started in 2014 by Joey Goldstein, currently a high school student at NSU University School. SOL strives to help clean up beaches and waterways with the hopes to save marine life and our ecosystem from trash and plastic pollution. The organization hosts educational events and beach clean ups throughout the year. Families have learned about things such as sea turtles, sharks and Florida’s coral reefs. A sustainable fishing workshop in the fall of 2019, prompted members to create the Stow It, Don’t Throw It recycling cans. Their most popular event is the annual Trash Treasure Hunt which was postponed this year due to the pandemic. Instead, SOL has launched a Beach Cleanup Challenge where individuals can win prizes.
