October has always been one of my favorite months to fish here in South Florida. We are past the dog days of summer which means water temperatures will begin to cool and fishing should dramatically improve inshore and offshore.
By the time this issue hits the street, the inshore bite should be on fire with the mullet run in full swing. This is great news for all of the snook and tarpon guys out there. Our local beaches will provide prime opportunities as the mullet make their way south towards Miami. The inlets should be filled with non stop action too, especially on the tide changes. Don’t forget about targeting big jack crevalle around docks and seawalls as they can’t resist a live mullet. Offshore, there should be plenty of dolphin around as there have been good numbers of fish over the last few weeks. The wahoo bite should be really good a few days before and after the new and full moons, especially on the outgoing tides. Sailfish action will be picking up too and will only get better over the next several months. Night fishing for yellowtail and mangrove snapper should also be outstanding. Remember that if you chum, they will come!
On another note, be sure to get out and vote on Tuesday, November 3rd. Besides the Presidential election there are many other races that are just as important. I urge you to take the time to educate yourself on the candidates and issues so you can make informed decisions. Get out there and vote. It’s your voice and it counts.
Keep reelin,
