Southport January 2026

With Christmas over, and the mercury starting to plummet, it can only mean one thing for the eastern seaboard beaches, GIANT Bluefin Tuna. The winter Bluefin tuna migration will be in full swing. One of the most impressive, strong and beautiful fish you will ever tie into. These giants can be found from the beach out to 30 miles off feeding on the huge biomass of menhaden, Boston mackerel, bluefish and squid schools. Slow trolling live baits near the areas holding this biomass can produce the most exhilarating bite of your life. From hard blistering 500-700 yd runs, to a continuous down and dirty under the boat for 3 + hours of dog fighting. Be sure to read the updated posted regulations for allowed harvesting, however, you can always catch and release. Contact your local Charter Captain to find out which ones are willing to try and put you on these fish.

In addition to the giant Tuna offshore, we are still seeing the Wahoo and Blackfin tuna bite and limits of the delicious Black Sea bass. Don’t forget the trout bite is on fire this time of year inshore. As always be prepared, wear your safety gear and be vigilant with the weather as this time of year it can be unpredictable. Good luck on the water, tight lines and big smiles!!!
