Playas del Coco Fishing Forecast and Report
Playas del Coco sailfish action has been hot and we’ve been catching wahoo, dorado and cubera snapper. The bottom fishing has been incredible with lots of big groupers. We are excited about the possibilities for October and September, things should really heat up. We’ve been seeing some huge blue marlin already and are busy getting geared up for them. The dredges are ready and the heavy gear is all prepped. Depending on what speed you’ll need to troll at, let me suggest a couple of lures for your marlin excursion. For a slower troll we like the Mold Craft Super Chugger. It works best in the 5-8 knot range. The 8.25 inch in pink and blue is our favorite. When you need to troll a little faster it’s hard to beat the Pakula Sprocket and/or Rat 11″-12″. You can throttle up a bit with these. I like the darker shades like black and purple. This is also the best time of the year for yellowfin, snapper and roosterfish. Try a kayak for some snook fishing. This is a great time of year to go after these exciting fish. Snook to 44lb have been landed recently and the fishery produce’s many in the 20-40lb class. With the kayaks you can cover a lot of water and have a chance at roosterfish too. Give that some thought… fishing the beautiful clear turquoise waters around river mouths catching giant snook & roosters! We like the large red and white poppers and the Daiwa or Rapala 6″-7″ hard baits. These lures are super fun to fish and produce consistently. Tight lines!
