[dropcap]D[/dropcap]rift fishing is always fun in the summer. The action on the reef is better in the summer than during any other season. The summer months are known for hot weather, calm seas and lots of big fish. Kingfish are biting great on the reefs while drifting, some of the kings over the 20 pound mark. Bonitos are beginning to show up, but haven’t yet started their massive summertime bite. We will see them in greater and greater numbers into late August. We are also starting to catch some big blackfin tuna on the drift, 30-35 pounders. There are some nice fish moving through our waters right now.
The guys drifting baits along the bottom are catching some good fish too. As the water gets warmer, many surface fish will journey down to the cooler waters near the bottom. A few cobias were caught this week on or near the bottom. Red groupers are hitting bottom rigs with regularity. Mutton snapper are biting well on both the day and the night trips. Yellowtail are also biting during the day and night trips, however they are biting much better on the night trips. The drift boats are pulling up some big fish this summer. Good luck to everyone fishing this July. Sea you on the water.
