Spring has been fantastic. Fisherman have been loading their boats down with limits of reds and specks.
I have been getting a lot of questions on the clarity of the water. The Miss. River is at 13.5 and still rising. Even with a high river, clean water can be found. I’ve said this before, even if you pull up to an area that is muddy, check your prop wash because there is usually clean water underneath.
Trout have been showing up thick along the beaches of South Pass. We’ve been seeing a lot of big trout coning back to the dock. Custom House, Blind Bay, 69 Block have also been producing limits of trout as well. Bait of choice has been live shrimp, vudu shrimp and matrix shrimp creole.
Redfish are everywhere: Eastside, Westside, doesn’t matter, it has been awesome. During a high river Yaratich is usually a good spot and always protected from any south wind. Redfish Bay and Garden Island Bay usually have good clean water and plenty of fish.
The outside of SW Pass has been hit or miss. You might come up empty but if you’re near that area, it’s hard to pass up. Popping corks is probably the easiest way to go. Gulps, chicken on a chain and lemon shad have been hot. Dead shrimp is always also good.
