Now is the time to go fishing, not in a week or a month, but today. This is the Gulf Coast of Mississippi from our green bayous, to the boat filled bays, to our sun kissed islands, we got great fishing covered. We are so very fortunate to have such a diverse set of charter boats and captains. Call one of our charter boats, they want to take you fishing. It is truly my pleasure to have the opportunity to fish with them.

As we move into fall, the larger cobia have started moving in closer and the fishing intensity really picks up. Fishing for cobia is definitely not for everyone (even if it should be). Cobia are an illusive fish, finicky about what they bite and can definitely be hard to set a hook in. That all said, a cobia is a great fighter and a fine eating fish. The frustration of fishing for cobia just makes them taste that much better.
This week I fished with Captain John Fryer of First Priority Charters. Before I go out on any charter boat fishing I always check the condition of the boat. Usually, I will arrive at the dock 15 minuets early and take a good hard look around—getting home is pretty important to me. Captain John fishes a very safe and clean Contender with dual outboards. In fact, it is just a pretty boat. The sea that evening was rough for a while and he handled it with ease. Captain John also has an excellent navigation system, which I saw him use safely and efficiently in the dark.
Captain John specializes in cobia fishing. He also offers trips for reds, trout, and tuna. Captain John carries plenty of live bait and large quantities of frozen bait for chumming. His tackle is all first-rate rods and reels. When your fishing for cobia quality tackle is a must, cobia are just not a forgiving species.
The day I fished with First Priority Charters we brought in four nice cobia and I missed one well over 50 pounds (my fault). Captain John clearly knows cobia and how to make them rise. He does not waste time on spots that do not produce and he is not afraid to travel for hours to find them. You will never be bored when you’re out fishing with First Priority Charters. Fishing for cobia often requires a lot of travel. It can be physically demanding and time consuming. Typically, a successful cobia trip is a daylong event. One would have a hard time finding another charter boat captain that can find cobia as often as John Fryer does. He would be a good choice for the upcoming tournaments. As I mentioned before cobia fishing is not for everybody, but if you want to be a Cobia Cowboy you just have to be willing to saddle up and hold on.
