Fishing in the Florida Keys in March can be an amazing time. We have opportunities for everything from sailfish out on the reefline to permit up on the flats, and if the weather is right, the tarpon will start to move under bridges and into local channels. Winter weather is starting to slip away and summer time is moving in. This is one of my favorite times of year to get out on the water and I can’t wait to get in my new Contender 25ft Bay Boat which will be delivered this month. March is the perfect time of year for the bay boat guys to head out to the patch reefs for some good bottom fishing and a great time to catch a sailfish or two before they leave the area. If you are in a flats skiff, the wind is up, and the skies are blue, head to the flats here in the keys in search of permit and bonefish. I have always had better fishing on a windy day up on the flats because when the fish are feeding they will allow you to make a closer cast without spooking them. If its calm and warm you will find me heading out in the early morning looking for rolling tarpon in the backcountry of the Everglades National Park, which is one of my favorite places to fish. March is a month with so many opportunities whether you are looking to take the kids out for a rod bending fun fishing trip or chasing the trophy fish that swim in our waters. If you are looking for a day on the h20 give me a call. I still have a few openings… (G.P)
