Alabama Gulf Coast Fishing Report: January 2014

Offshore Fishing

Offshore fishing should be good through the winter. I would recommend fishing 100 feet and deeper in the cold months. You can still catch amberjack, vermillion snapper, white snapper, triggerfish, scamp and red grouper through the winter. Always try cut squid and whole squid. Live bait is good when you can find it. Watch the weather forecast and find you a nice day between cold fronts.

Nearshore Fishing

Nearshore fishing has been good with some good catches of bull redfish within 2 miles of the coastline. Even though we released 28 bull redfish, all weighing over 20 pounds each, a few days ago, the redfish have not shown up in huge numbers. However, January may just be the month for some red hot bull red fishing. We caught all of our bull reds on curly tail jigs and topwater plugs on our last trip. Don’t overlook the good winter fishing that is available on the Alabama Gulf Coast. Come on and let’s go fishing.

Costa Rica Fishing

If you are looking for some awesome big game sportfishing in our winter months then book a trip to Costa Rica. Enjoy temps in the 90’s all year long. December through April are great months to enjoy great weather and great fishing. We target Pacific sailfish, blue marlin, black marlin, tuna, mahi-mahi, roosterfish, cubera snapper, grouper and snook. We would love to talk to you about Costa Rica.
