[dropcap]A[/dropcap]pril gave us some good fishing. Spanish mackerel and king mackerel are here and are being caught within 3 miles of the shoreline. Several nice cobia have been caught in April and should continue into May. May is a great month for offshore fishing as the water continues to warm. Amberjack, scamp grouper, red grouper, vermillion snapper, white snapper, kings and triggerfish may be caught and kept in May. Don’t forget that amberjack will be closed in June and July. Triggerfish will close sometime in May and may reopen in August. Red snapper season is still in question but may open June 1st and close within 8-11 days. Check the regulations before June 1st. Gag grouper is scheduled to open July 1st. We will be doing deep drop fishing for snowy grouper, yellow edge grouper, golden tilefish, blue line tilefish, long tail seabass and more. Offshore tuna fishing has been good and should continue. Whether it is nearshore or offshore, there are fish to catch.

Costa Rica fishing has been red hot with huge catches of sailfish. A world record was broken during the first 3 days of the Offshore World Championship 2014. There were over 2400 sailfish caught and released. Best fishing in Costa Rica is November through June. December through May is the dry season. www. fishingcostarica.net
