Alabama Gulf Coast Fishing Report: Nov. 2013

[dropcap]N[/dropcap]ovember is usually our first big month for bull redfish fishing. We usually find the bull reds within one mile of the shoreline. I like to troll #3 spoons behind #3 planers. I also suggest pulling diving baits such as stretch 25’s and 30’s. A good speed is 5 – 7 knots.

Always watch for redfish feeding near the surface. Casting into a school of redfish can be a blast. I prefer light spinning tackle with 20lb test. This will usually handle bull reds in the 30lb range. King mackerel and Spanish mackerel should be biting in November. Trolling with #2 and #3 spoons are good options.

Bottom fishing in November can be productive with vermillion snapper and white snapper. All red snapper and triggerfish must be released. Amberjack can be caught offshore in deeper water. Grouper are also an option in the deeper water. Enjoy the waters of the gulf without the big crowd of boats. November can be fun with excellent fishing.
