Team Uno Mas has been crushing it in the 2016 Bahamas Billfish Championship, winning the second and third legs of the tournament series and collecting a $5,000 Grand Slam bonus on day one of the leg 2 Boat Harbour Championship.

The Boat Harbour Championship held in late May at Abaco Beach Resort started with a bang for the 69’ Bayliss Uno Mas. The team released a blue marlin, two white marlin and a sailfish on day one. They went on to release a white marlin and a sailfish on day two and capped off the win releasing three blue marlin and a white marlin on day three. Sandrita, a 62’ Ocean, made the scoreboard all three days as well, releasing a blue and a white on day one, a blue marlin on day two and two blue marlin on day 3. Angler Sandra Fish caught two of those blues, earning her the award for Top Lady Angler. The BBC Series leader at the time, the 40’ Cabo Bamboo, released three blues and three sailfish to give them third place.

Uno Mas jumped to the top of the BBC Series overall championship leaderboard with a win at the Marsh Harbour Championship, leg 3 of the series held at Abaco Beach Resort in early June. Uno Mas got on the board releasing two blue marlin and a white marlin on day two. They went on to release another blue on day three to secure the win. Second place went to last year’s BBC Champion the Wave Paver, a 61’ Garlington, which made the scoreboard on the first day releasing a blue marlin. The Sandrita, a 62’ Ocean wrapped up the leaderboard in third place releasing a sailfish on day one.

Competition was fierce headed into the final leg of the series, which took place in Treasure Cay June 15-18. Uno Mas sat atop the overall championship leaderboard with 7,500 points. Sandrita held second with 5,450 points. Bamboo was just off that second-place mark with 5,400 points.

The $1 Million Dollar Marlin bonus was also still up for grabs! The award is for the angler who catches a blue marlin that breaks the current Bahamas record of 1,119 pounds. All of the prior granders were caught during BBC tournaments. Fishing was red hot in the Abacos at tournament time, and Treasure Cay is where the current record was caught!
