Bass Fishing Report: Dec 2013

by Capt. Brett Isackson

December is upon us and the water temperatures have come down to the mid 70’s. Look for the fish to start moving in to spawn on the flats in the Everglades at Holiday Park and Sawgrass Recreational Park off of US HWY 27. The water levels should start coming down since we’re not in the rainy season, meaning the bass fishing should start getting better.

If you do go out on the flats, don’t forget your orange flag to hoist on your boat. The flag must be displayed 9 feet off the top of your boat for safety and visibility. The air boaters are out there and you’ll also need to watch out for the duck hunters, because duck season will be going on. The peacock bass fishing should still be good if we have no cold fronts coming in. Try using fast moving jerk baits and fast moving topwater baits like torpedoes, or something that moves fast across the top of the water to get the peacock’s attention.

PLEASE, don’t forget about the December 7th TOYS 4 KIDS Team Bass Tournament at Roland Martin Marine Center in Clewiston. Entry for this upcoming Lake Okeechobee tournament is $50.00 and TWO (2) NEW UNWRAPPED TOYS. Teams consist of up to 2 adults and 2 kids less than 15 years of age. Sign up by mail or at the Roland and Mary Ann Martin’s Marine Center starting at 4:00 AM the morning of the tournament. Weigh-in starts at 3:00 PM. Come on up and bring your toys for donation to an organization which will provide some needy kids a Merry Christmas. Contact Chris at 1-941-232-9539.

I would like to take the time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays!
