Biscayne Bay & Everglades Fishing Report: May 2014

By Capt.Shawn Fairbanks

Tarpon fishing is the way of life this month in South Florida from Lauderdale to the Keys. Live bait, lures, and fly fishing all get their fair share of catches. Here in the Broward County area we are seeing a fair amount of spring mullet and so are the fish. Dead bait and live baiting are both working well in your favorite spots. Also, don’t overlook the snook. Night fishing is starting to heat up this month as the fish start to settle out front for the summer.

Biscayne Bay is still experiencing a solid amount of shrimp, and the fish are still keyed- in hard. Nighttime fishing around bridges and inlets has been hot. Also, when the wind isn’t howling, anglers are getting good hook- ups on the flats and ample shots on fly. Mixed in are a few bonefish. Trout fishing also has been hot in northern Biscayne Bay, with top waters early and late in the day taking the nicer fish. Shrimp under your favorite style cork are taking the quantity of fish. Hope the tide is high on your side….
