Bluewater Fishing Forecast: April 2013

Well spring has sprung finally. April is usually a transitional month. The tuna should be headed off their winter haunts on the shelf by now. The floating oil rigs should start producing by months end. The live bait hardtails pogies and spanish sardines will start getting easier to come by as the water temps rise also. Since April is the slowest month of the year for bluewater we switch gears and cobia fish till the first of May. We cant wait to head down to Destin in April to sight fish for cobia before they arrive here on our coast.

By the time both Gorenflos cobia tournaments are over I am eager to get back to the deep waters before the major bluewater tournaments start up. Gorenflos annual shootout is April 27th and the 2 day is May 4-5th with registration May 3rd at 6pm. Info 228-432-0454.

Good luck!

Tight lines,
Capt. Mark Smith
