Canals and Waterways

Fishing in Southwest Florida in November can either be really good or troublesome if early cold fronts come into play.  But there is one jig by Reel Nautical that can take some of the guesswork out of this month, the ST Jig in 1/8 or ¼ St is short for split tail. These are one of the best all-around jigs for snook, redfish, and largemouth and peacock bass in.  This has become my go to jig on all the pressured lakes of Highlands County and all surrounding canals and waterways.  They are one of my favorites for peacocks in the Golden Gate system and all the canals on South Tamiami Trail and 75.  For the canals, I prefer the 1/8 oz size in chartreuse ice color.  For the lakes, I believe the Goby in ¼ oz is the way to go, but I’ve caught bass on all the colors they come in.  These jigs are great for vertical jigging presentations and will work with you FFS sonar.  For snook and redfish, they get the job done. I like to fish them in the deeper mangrove cuts passes and rivers especially the glow color and 1/8 oz is perfect for your spooky flats fish.  Sight fishing this time of the year really shines typically clear water on the flats and since we are still not in “full season” with the snowbird population yet, there are less angler traffic to contend with. Trout are starting to show up in good numbers as the waters are cooling and we have you covered there with the pink Ice color. The trout will start transitioning from the deeper channels onto the flats and then onto their winter haunts.  We wish everyone a very joyous thanksgiving and happy holidays from Roan and Rich at Reel Nautical. Rich and Roan would like to invite you to check them out at one of the local Bait and Tackle stores like Mikes Bait House, Marco Island Bait and Tackle, Estero River Outfitters, Kraken Tackle of Ft Myers, and The Bait Shop of Lake Placid and our newest location Big Boys Tackle Cape Coral.  or check them out online at www.reelnautical.net or drop us an email: reelnautical239@gmail.com
