Cobia caught off Brooklyn beach

caught this 36 inches Cobia in Off of Coney Island beach.

Hello My name is Fredrick Scuteri. I’m twenty years old. I live in Rockaway park NY. I fish the area often. On Saturday August 29th, I went fishing with my grandfather on his boat. We were drifting drifting for summer flounder a right off Coney Island beach. I was using a 3oz bucktail with a 1/4oz pink jig head a few inches above it, tipped with a 3 inch berkley gulp. We were drifting and bouncing our rigs off the bottom. All of a sudden I felt something hit my line hard. I set the hook and I thought I was snagged at first until my drag rapidly started to pull drag. After a 5 minute fight we managed to net the fish and realized this wasn’t our usual type of catch. It was a Cobia that measured 36 inches. A very rare catch for the New York area. The fish was released.
