Capt. Bill D’Antuono
Fishing isn’t just putting a line in the water and hoping for the best. There are limitless scenarios and techniques to master to increase your catch ratio. When you see someone posting a trophy fish, that fish symbolizes an investment of time, money, and happiness. The combination of these three things will make anyone get up hours before dawn!
Red Snapper season is wrapping up and what a season it was. Naples and Marco Island anglers saw red snapper up to 25lbs and the experience of a red snapper trip is one to last a lifetime. On my hook and line charters, limiting out early seemed to be the general trend. After limiting on ARS, we would go on a red grouper hunt. While far offshore bird sightings can lead to some trolling action, it is not a secret that wahoo, blackfin tuna, and mahi are lurking just under the birds as well.
When you spend time offshore and have your vessels equipment up to par, you will come across some hidden gems while spending hours offshore in the blue water. Over the past two months we have found two wrecks and a couple dozen “lit up” fishing holes. That’s when the dive gear comes out to explore these private areas known to very few anglers, if any at all.
With August here and September around the corner, amberjack season re-opens in the gulf; time for some smoked fish dip! Along with AJ, lobster season will be in full swing, so give me a shout if you want to get on some local lobsters. We will be spearfishing some of our newly found spots and waiting once again for fall when the fish are back on the move.
