Fishing & Father’s Day

By Capt. Michael Kelleher, Capefish Outfitters & Fly Shop

June is a great month for fly fishing for stripers. With most of the migratory fish entering our waters, early morning or early evening surface action can be a regular occurrence. Although finding time to get out to fish can be challenging, every so often when you can get out there, hopefully things line up for a great experience. In honor of Fathers Day on June 19th this year, we put together a little list for Dad. After all you can never have too much fishing stuff. Here are our picks from Capefish.

1. Simms Headwaters Tackle Bag: $179.95 from SIMMS

This Tackle bag is awesome on capacity, has a waterproof bottom and can hold pretty much anything from boxes to tools to spools.  Great boat bag.

2. Airflo Sink 40+ Sniper Fly Line: $84.99 from Airflo

This fly line is perfect for fishing the rocks or the sound. A sweet saltwater fly fishing line with a 29 foot shooting head, and a 3.5 to 7.0 sink rate it is perfect for catching the subsurface slobs under those feisty schoolies.

3. Costa Saltbreak Sunglasses 580P: $189.00 from Costa

Lots of sunglass brands out there.  These are tops. Clarity is awesome.  Weight is perfect.  Totally balanced for all day wear.

4. Patagonia Sol Patrol II Fishing Shirt: $79.00 from Patagonia

Every year we sell out of these.  Great overall weight, SPF, and vented in the back for comfort.  A continued reliable classic.

5.Hatch 7 Plus Fly Fishing Reel: $600.00 from Hatch

If you are going to spend good money on a fly reel, this has to be on your list.  The perfect reel for stripers, albies, bonito, snook, bluefish, baby tarpon, on and on it goes.  So adaptive to a wide variety of fishing applications.

Have a great June out there fishing. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads. – Capt. Matt
