Florida anglers targeting greater amberjack will have a new season window to keep in mind this fall.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has modified the 2026 recreational greater amberjack season in Gulf state waters, with the season now scheduled to run from September 1 through October 13. The season will close at 12:01 a.m. on October 14.
Greater amberjack is a popular target for Gulf anglers, particularly those fishing offshore structure, reefs and wrecks. The season change gives recreational fishermen another opportunity to target the hard-fighting species while helping fisheries managers maintain the fishery within established management goals.
Anglers planning trips for greater amberjack should check the latest FWC regulations before heading offshore, as additional rules—including size and bag limits—remain in effect.
