Fort Bayou Fishing Report: Feb 2014

I would like to start out by saying what all coastal anglers are thinking…Can we please have some nice weather? This is one of the most challenging winters I have seen for trout fishing. With the cold muddy waters and a lack of trout in certain winter holes, its enough to drive a person to “hunt”! There is some hope for trout anglers. Go south from Pascagoula to the Pass. Trout are being caught on the beach. Gulfport Harbor is seeing some nice trout being taken and it should continue through February. In the Biloxi, the spots to fish are Treasure Bay, Broadwater and Katrina Reef. The Pascagoula area is Graveline and the causeway. If looking for reds, they can be found around most piers that have 8 feet of water or deeper next to the pilings. When fishing for reds in February, I use bull minnows on a Carolina rig. Th e water temps have been unusually low and a bull minnow will move around much more than a live shrimp. For serious trout anglers be looking for Th e Boardwalk Bait Shop 2nd Annual Spec Shootout. The tournament is February 8th. All info can be found on their Facebook page.

When the weather allows…take a kid fishing!
