Fort Bayou Fishing Report: Jan 2014

by Capt. Mike Adams

I would like to thank all of our loyal Coastal Angler faithful for another year. If 2014 is anything like 2012 we will see more state records fall and many fish stories told. January should see consistent cool weather, in turn this will put heft y speckled trout in a more predictable pattern. From Pascagoula to the Pearl River and every river or bayou along the beautiful coastline will produce these tasty trout if you know what to look for along the way. Pascagoula River can be outstanding during January, here are a few places to start: Big Lake on the West River, Bayou Chemise (runs between east and west river), also the East River below Beardslee Lake. Knowing how to read your electronics will make winter trout fishing in these areas more productive. If the Pascagoula is unfamiliar then I suggest trying Grapeline Bayou or Fort Bayou, both have accessible boat launches and navigating these smaller bayous may be the safer choice. Once you arrive turn your depth finder on and idle while looking for any contour change that shows a sign of life. Knowing your electronics will enhance your angling abilities, if this seems out of reach find a friend that is willing to help you along the way. Or hire an experienced guide to open your eyes to the wonders below.

Thanks to all our guests who allowed Fort Bayou Charters to show them the time of their life! God Bless, Capt. Mike Adams
