Fort Bayou: June 2014

[dropcap]A[/dropcap]s this issue of Coastal Angler Magazine goes to print we have seen a lot of fish being caught on Fort Bayou Charters. If May is any indication of what June has in store for us I can’t wait. The beautiful Mississippi Sunrise has brought with it a lot of strong, most of the time, annoying wind. June should be a better month for tripletail if the wind will cooperate.

I have done well off the east end of Deer Island around crab corks and any visible debris. Katrina Reef had the hot hand for speckled trout lately with many gator trout being wrangled with some feisty live shrimp. Anyone searching for flounder can also find these tasty flat fish on Katrina Reef and the rocks on East Deer. Live shrimp is the bait of choice to test your angling skills on any of the above mentioned species. There are a few great places to purchase these lively crustaceans from Kenny at Marine Mart in Ocean Springs harbor or Pan and Brenda at Who Zat Bait Camp located at the Fort Bayou boat ramp along with Greg …. Across the bayou at Fort Bayou Bait Shop. All these places are very helpful with anything from live to dead bait and some artificial.

Come by Mikey’s on the Bayou and check out the Fort Bayou Charters Braggin’ Board. The Mississippi Sound has given up its delicious spoils/filets that Mikey’s on the Bayou has fried and blackened for our customers.

Along with the fishing, Capt. Mike treats clients to a crab boil after a fun day of catching fish. I have some days open in June so give me a call for some down home southern hospitality.
