Lake Alfred – Auburndale – Winter Haven Areas
May is the prime time if you’re looking for those blue gills and shell crackers. Do something different. Why not invite your Mom to spend the day fishing with you. She’ll enjoy the attention and she may just become a great fishing buddy!
In the Auburndale area, we have reports of big blue gills coming out of Lake Ariana. They also report lots of schooling Bass in the 3 to 4-pound range. Lake Juliana is reporting good limits and size on blue gills and nice bass in the 4 to 8-pound range. Just for fun, you may also enjoy fishing for some of the large bowfins located in Lake Juliana.
Coming over to our Lake Alfred area, Lakes Haines, Rochelle and Alfred are reporting lots of big blue gills and shell crackers. Our bass reports are also good stating many 3 to 9-pound fish being caught. Our best bait recommendation for bass fishing is still the Booyah Lipless Crank Bait in Royalty Color and Booyah Frogs. These are proven winners and will bring you the best results.
Moving on to Winter Haven, the best reporting Lakes in the South Winter Haven Chain at this time are Lakes Shipp, Cannon, Summit and May. When fishing the chain, you’ll find the canals will be especially good for shell crackers. Fishing the mouth of the canals is best for snagging those bass. When entering the canals, we recommend using a Bass Assassin Boss Shiner Swim Bait. Our South Winter Haven Chain lakes are reporting Bass in the 4 to 7-pound range.
After serving our fishing community for the past 20 years, Ron’s Tackle Box Weekly Bass Tournaments have now ended. Our Thursday night slot has been picked up by long-time friend and well-known angler Rick Combee. Rick has named his tournaments “Thursday Night Open Series” and will follow a similar format as our tournaments. Each week the tournament location will be advertised on “The Ledger” online, and on Facebook under “Thursday Night Open Series”. The photo of the March 28th tournament held on Lake Parker shows 1st Place winners Brandon Smith (BB 7.3 lb) and Logan Browden (Total 14.37 lb). Ron’s Tackle Box will still be hosting “Special” Tournaments from time to time. Our goal has always been to host bass tournaments that are honest, provide great fishing and offer a family-friendly environment–we will continue to do so. Happy Mother’s Day!
