Grand Traverse Bay Fishing Report: August 2013

A Cooler than normal start to the summer has put things a little behind. The smallmouth spawn was later than usual and the large numbers of bait fish are just starting to show up. Overall num- bers of smallmouth being caught are good, but the average size has been smaller than previous years. The late summer and fall bite should remain strong. Drop Shots and Fishing Tube Baits will be your best bet for success with the Grand Traverse Bay bron- zeback.

Lake trout catches have been fair to decent. Cowbells or Dodgers with Spin-N-Glow or Peanut combinations will work. King salmon catches are just beginning to pick up. The numbers of king salmon are way down, but the average size is significantly improved over previous years. Spoons, Plugs and Dodger Fly combinations will be sure to entice the big kings.
