Hampstead’s Own Jodie Gay Skippers a win in the SFRCKMT

Capt. Jodie Gay, former SKA champ skippered David Mason’s Onslow Bay 23T Center Console appropriately named “Blue Water Candy” and took the honors with a 52.6 lb. King mackerel in the Snead’s Ferry Rotary Club King Mackerel Tournament. The Blue Water Candy crew also included Russell Weaver and Wayne Hewitt.

Jodie told me that the weather would not allow them to fish the spot that he wanted to fish so he worked his way further offshore near the east side of Cape Lookout and caught a few quality fish. After moving on Capt. Jodie backtracked to a spot that he noticed had a lot of bait on it. Rigging some pogies up with some of his own Blue Water Candy skirts the big fish hit and dove for the bottom. Team member Russell Weaver grabbed the rod and battled the fish. The fish fought like a huge tuna swimming along beneath the boat. Once the fish was up and alongside the boat the team was excited to see that this was a huge King mackerel.

The Rotary Club of Snead’s Ferry hosts this tournament every year to fund local scholarship sand community service projects. For more information about the Snead’s Ferry Rotary Club please visit www.sneadsferryrotary.com.Jodie_2013_SFKMT_2
