Harris Chain Fishing Forecast – June

The summer patterns have set in here on The Harris Chain. With no rain this year the crappie have moved out into open water, and can be found suspended over deeper holes. The most productive method for them this time of year is to spider rig with all the lines set at various depths, using hair or ice jigs tipped with grass shrimp. Speed up the trolling motor and slow it down to find the speed the fish want. The catfish can be found in the canals or deep holes close to shore, fishing directly on the bottom with cut or stink bait. And the bluegill – although they can still be caught in the pads and grass, most fish have begun to move out deeper into the lake.

As for bass fishing, the best action has been on top water baits early in the morning or late in the evening. So far this has been the most productive method. Frogs over heavy cover or dense lily pads is the top water go-to this time of year. When the sun rises over head; flipping small profile baits, Carolina rigging worms or lizards in holes or near drop offs, or finesse fishing with weightless worms will be the most productive methods. Big fish can still be caught if time is put into it. The bass tournaments have had good limits, averaging between 4 and 5lbs per fish.
