Holland Area Fishing Report: Sept. 2014

Fishing has been awesome, and the forecast for the rest of the month looks to be the same. Pier anglers have been hitting the fish water when the conditions are right. King fishing has also been good with double digit numbers of kings this last week, and the perch fishing has been hot with limit catches.

We have been catching most of our kings between 80 – 150 top 60 being the best water to fish. Paddles spin doctors and meat rigs have been the best in the 40 to 60 down and spoons 40 and above. Also, early we have been running a lot of moonshine with flounder pounder and bloody nose being some of the best spoons. Also, plugs have been playing a big roll and as the fish head towards the pier heads these will be the baits of choice.

Perch fishing has also been hot with limit catches of fish coming between 40 feet and the pier heads. Perch pounders have been hot and don’t forget the blades that are some of my favorite setups. We probably only have a few weeks to beat up on these big kings so get out and fill the freezer while the fishing is good.

As for the fall bite start watching the shallow waters as the kings’ start to stage and make their big runs for the rivers spawn. Also, perch fishing should stay good as long as we don’t have a big change in water temperatures. Good luck and get out while the fishing is hot.
