Infinity by Harman is about to launch their much-anticipated Kappa speakers lineup. The series is a family cosmetic, with a 6 ½”, 8”, and 10” speaker available in either a titanium or white grill.
What separates the speaker from other premium speakers is a unique combination of performance, lighting and an unusual “twist” to the 8” speaker.
The Kappa 8130 is the new 8” premium white three-way marine speaker from Harman. This speaker boasts 500 watts of peak power (200W RMS) and incorporates two locales for RGB lighting: perimeter ribbon and center mount. Up to seven colors can be attained depending on wiring.
Kappa Speakers Acoustics
The acoustic flexibility of this speaker is perhaps its most inspirational feature. The removable 3 ½” mid tweeter plays perfectly with the science of sound. To recap this science, high frequencies are unidirectional while low frequencies are omnidirectional. Most boat speakers are installed at knee level or lower, so the mid and high frequencies are lost, aimlessly fired at ankles. Harman recognized this deficiency and engineered a removable 3 ½” mid tweeter.
Should you choose to remove the mid tweeter, what remains is an 8” subwoofer. Upon removal, the mid tweeter may be installed at an elevated position on the boat, with the helm being a logical choice. The included adaptor and beauty ring assist with the final touches of the mid tweeter installation. The mids and highs fire closer to ear level, resulting in an acoustic experience unlike any other.
