My Fishing Adventures

A massive weed patch 22 miles offshore & nothing but 1 barracuda.

Hello anglers,

I hope you all have been staying safe and catching fish! I haven’t been fishing very much lately. This is mostly due to being extremely busy with schoolwork and having daily swim practices. However, there was one weekend that I was able to get out of the house and go out on the boat with my family and the Captain of the Spiced Rum III fishing team, a fellow boat, and friends of ours in the SKA. We were lucky enough to take the new Nor-Tech 392 out for a ride, and it was such a good day to do so since it was flat calm. We decided to go for some dolphin since it was so flat. We ran a few miles offshore past the weedlines because everybody was there. We found big patches of weed 12 miles out, so we set out a ballyhoo and trolled for a little. We got this one school of tiny peanut dolphin to come to the boat, however they were not biting at all. They were too small to eat anyways so we weren’t too focused on them and would rather wait for a bigger school. We continued to troll but never got anything. We ran to another spot again 22 miles offshore where we saw a big floating object. We thought we hit gold; we were so excited to find that it was a 6 foot by 2 foot board with triple tail all over. Somehow there were no dolphin or wahoo on it, and after 15 minutes of working it, we realized that there was nothing there. We took the loss but had an amazing day on the water and a delicious lunch at Two Georges. It was still a great day spending time with family and friends.
