Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing! Returning to Ft. Myers/Matlacha March 12-13

The nonprofit Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing! Foundation will offer its Gulf Coast educational event to the Ft. Myers area March 12-13 at the Matlacha Community Center. Last year, sixty women and families traveled from several states for education, hands-on fishing activities, habitat conservation and to meet other anglers.

Perfect for women, men and teens who want to learn local fishing, educational events on Saturday from 12:30 – 4:30 p.m. feature speakers on conservation, inshore/backcountry and kayak fishing, equipment usage and more, followed by a hands-on fishing skill practice for releasing, dehooking/conservation, knot tying, kayak fishing, lure usage, fly, spin and net casting, trailer backing, fish fighting techniques and more.

Saturday’s events conclude with a reception at the Blue Dog Restaurant. On Sunday, participants can opt to fish from flats charters, pontoon/deck boats or from kayaks with guides, followed by fish filleting.

On a tiny strip island between Ft. Myers and Pine Island, the Matlacha Community Center is on the water, with a field, fishing pier and launch ramp at 4577 Pine Island Road N.W., Matlacha, FL33993.

No equipment or experience is necessary. Registration and optional fishing charter rates are on www.ladiesletsgofishing.com.

Other LLGF events include South Florida April 29-May 1, Cuba May 18-22, St. Augustine Aug.12-14, Bimini Bahamas Sept. 9-11, FL Keys/Tavernier/Islamorada Oct. 21-23 and Chokoloskee/Everglades National Park Nov. 19-20.
