Become an angler or improve your fishing skills in just one weekend.
Have you ever been aboard a boat and find your father, boyfriend, husband or significant other waits until you are reeling in a fish before they give you a clue what to do? Change the pattern! The acclaimed ‘no-yelling school of fishing’, Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing!, lands on the Treasure Coast in Stuart at Pirates Cove Resort and Marina May 16-18, 2014.
This two-day ‘fishing university’ is designed to help women to either become an angler or to improve their fishing skills. In its 17th year, the Ladies, Let’s Go Fishing! program has graduated over 7,000 lady anglers.
Expert educators will demonstrate ethical angler habits, such as safe hook removal, release techniques, fish venting and more. And local fishing guides—which include Captains Marcia Foosaner, Melinda Buckley George Mittler and more—will provide instruction on fishing techniques and methods. Hands-on activities range from spin casting, gaffing grapefruits, cast netting, trailer backing and boat handling.
The weekend launches Friday night (May 16) with a networking happy hour at Pirates Cove Resort and Marina from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Saturday, classroom presentations, which include offshore, bottom, inshore and fly fishing, begin at 8 a.m., followed by lunch, a “Dress for Fishing Success” fashion show, and hands-on fishing skills until 4:30 p.m.
To reinforce the ‘land’ training, an optional on-the-water fishing adventure is offered on Sunday.
Early registration starts at $99 and includes instruction, use of equipment, hands-on training, networking reception, meals and goody bags. Women and girls age 16 and up (accompanied by a registered adult) are invited. The Sunday Fishing Adventure, with tackle and bait provided, is additional. Gift certificates are available.
All weekend activities will be hosted at Pirates Cove Resort and Marina, located at 4307 S.E. Bayview Street, Stuart, Florida.
In addition to the Stuart event, the 2014 schedule includes South Florida April 11-13 and the Florida Keys November 14-16.
