Lake Agua Milpa, Mexico for Beauty and an Abundance of Bass!

Bass-Charles-caught-Agua-Milpa

One of our favorites lakes in Mexico is Agua Milpa. This lake is located in the majestic Sierra Madre mountain range near the town of Tepic. Once inaccessible to outsiders, this rugged section of the Sierra Madre is now host to bass anglers from around the world! At 2,400 foot elevation, this 80 mile long reservoir is full of aggressive bass, many of which are in the 7 lb. range and some exceeding 12 lbs! For sheer numbers of quality bass Agua Milpa can’t be beat. The lake is now open to sport fishing March – May and also has no nets during that time. The month of June also offers outstanding bass action. The climate at the lake is cooler than the other bass lakes in Mexico in June because of the elevation. This lake is known for the amount of fish caught in a day. Really, it’s hard to think of catching one hundred and fifty in the morning and one hundred and fifty in the evening. I have done it many times. The way I like to fish this lake is to throw top flies into it in the morning until about ten o’clock and then start casting crank baits. I do this until about mid day and then go down deep with plastics. That always works for us. I have been fishing this lake for many years and have not caught a fish over eight pounds. I am not saying that they are not there, but I have caught a lot of five to eight pounders in a day. This lake I think is the best lake for any one that wants to catch a lot of bass or just wants to have a great day fishing. You do not need to be a pro to catch two hundred fish in a day here. Also, if you want to get your kids started in this great sport this is where you should take them. Another thing about this lake is that it is very beautiful. You are surrounded by giant canyons. You can get there from Mazatlan going south about two hours. It is well worth the travel time.

For you people that want to have the time of your life you must fish Mexico. When fishing for bass you should bring your own gear because they don t have much in that line so bring what you need. We have only the best if you want to get it from us at thegrizgear.com. On the other hand all you need for salt water is here.
