Lake Allatoona Fishing Report: March 2014

By Capt. Robert Eidson

Lineside fishing is Slow! I think we have about two more weeks before the bite picks up. The shad kill is starting to show signs of slowing. This was a big shad kill and was one of the largest we have seen on Lake Allatoona in many years. The shad kill has made fishing tough for the last few weeks, but great fishing is right around the corner. I look for the bite to return by the first or second week of March and expect it to be off the charts by the first of
April. Get your honey-do’s done now because great Lake Allatoona fishing is almost here.

If you just have to get out of the house and wet a line, your best bet will be maybe a big shad or trout fished behind planers boards and on freelines. You won’t wear them out but there is the possibility of catching a monster right now.

The bite has been so slow on Lake Allatoona that I will be moving all of my Allatoona trips to Carters Lake until Allatoona starts showing some signs of life, hopefully in the next few weeks.
