Lake Blackshear Fishing Report: March 2014

By STEVEN CRENSHAW

With the cold weather and the abundance of rain we had in February the conditions for good fishing has not been favorable. The few days that were suitable for fishing did not produce very many fish. The fish that were caught were in 30′ to 35′ feet of water and on the bottom. The water temperature on Blackshear got below 40 degrees which is as cold as anyone can remember for the past several years. The fishermen using jigs have not had as much luck catching crappie as the minnow fishermen due to the depth that the fish are located. Catfish have been caught behind Crisp County Power Dam using live bait. When the sun shines for several days and warms up the water the fishing will be excellent. As cold as this winter has been it may be mid-March before we see conditions improve. Try fishing in the mouth of Cedar Creek and north towards Lincoln Pinch. Stay in the river channel until the water temperature is above 60 degrees and then start fishing in 15 feet of water. Remember to always thank God for the world He made and for the opportunity we have to enjoy it.
