Lake Blackshear Fishing Report: Oct 2013

by Scott Holland

The bass bite on the lake is tough right now. Fish are biting early for a few hours around grass just inside main-lake pockets and on points. Try throwing topwater plugs in shad colors and SPRO frogs around the back of the grass tight to the banks. A few schools of shad are in Swift Creek and the Fort early, as far back in the pocket as you can get. Try topwater and Zoom flukes in and around docks and grass. As the sun gets high, go to the docks just inside main-lake pockets. Cedar Creek, Swift Creek and Hotel Slough have been the better creeks. Frog fishermen up the river around Campers Haven and the Glory Hole area are catching some nice bass where there is a lot of grass and willows to target. Try SPRO’s popping frog. If you have time to make a night trip, the weather has been nice and some very nice bass are coming off the lights in the mouths of Cedar Creek and Swift Creek. Throw a shaky head with a green pumpkin Trick Worm, and you can have a blast catching white bass with an ultra-light tipped with a Little Fishy crappie jig.
