Water temperature is in the 50’s. Fishing is good! I’m catching fish in 20-30 ft of water and 12-18 ft down drifting minnows around brush. Later in the day, find the deep brush piles and vertical fish over them, dropping minnows down 12-18 ft with a no.6 hook and small split shot 2 inches above the hook.

I had a recent trip with my son and one of his friends. We caught over 70 fish and kept 50 real nice slabs. We were fishing the Gainesville Creek area on deep brush, marking a lot of schools of crappie in that area. Fishing this way should put a lot of filets in your freezer. The hot spots for January should be Gainesville Creek and above Clarks Bridge. January is coming fast, and the middle of January is when I start catching a lot of 2 pound plus fish. If you’re not crappie fishing now, you need to start getting the leaves out of your boat because the fishing is about to get hot!
