Lake Lanier Crappie Forecast: Sept 2013

The lake is full, and the fish are biting great. If you ain’t out fishing for them, you’re missing out. The crappie are from the mouth of the creek to halfway back. We are catching a lot of fish early in the morning drifting minnows at a depth of 5 to 12 feet in 10 to 20 feet of water. September is a good time to catch some of the larger slabs. On a recent trip we caught more than 10 fish longer than 15 inches. Mid-day, the shady docks and brushpiles are producing good fish. On the docks, we are using the #41 Jiffy Jig (red/white/chartreuse) and Wahoo rainbow with good results. The brushpiles we have been fishing are in 12 to 25 feet of water, and we are targeting them by downlining minnows and jigs tipped with minnows. The night bite has been great around bridges and lighted boat docks. We are downlining minnows around the Hydro Glow green lights. As the water cools, the fishing will get even better. Don’t sit home and watch it on TV, get out and catch some fish. Give us a call or stop by the shop for everything you need to load your cooler with fish. Wahoo Bait and Tackle is located on Mount Vernon Road on the north end of Lake Lanier. Call us at (678) 450-9901.
