The winter season is on us but fish still gotta eat…especially the rock (known as striped bass to some.)

They will be making their way upriver to spawn, following the spring shad run. They can be caught on deep ledges using 1/8- to 1/4-ounce DOA jig heads with DOA CAL jerk shad tails, Your tackle will make a great difference. Using light rods will give more sensitivity, allowing you to feel the tap bites. You should also watch your line, as they often pick up the bait on the drop and you will notice your line moving in sideways directions.

Trolling deep water can also provide some good action, as will cut bait fishing. Some of the fish caught this time of year can be large so go equipped.

If weather is decent, some trout may also be found upriver this time of year, too. Bouncing the bottom in deep water with DOA CAL curlytails on the lightest jig head you can use for the wind and current should work out well.

But the biggest thing to remember this time of year is safety…you should be extra careful as your body temperature will drop fast if you go overboard.
Tight lines!
