F ishing has been good out of Manistee, fishing straight out and south, six to eight miles in 80-200 feet of water. Nice size kings around 12 to 20 pounds have been showing up. The best baits have been Spin Doctors with meat rigs on a Dipsy Diver. The Green Sparkle and the Blue Sparkle have been my best colors with a green and blue meat rigs. Some spoons and plugs have been working on 10 and 13 color lead.
Most of the fish have been coming in that 50 to 70 foot range but that changes every day, depending on what way the wind blows. Fishing should only get better in August, because the big kings are showing up to start and run the rivers to spawn. We will be using the Spin Doctors and meat rigs and plugs and spoons will be good when the fish are higher in the water column, especially around the pier heads. The local bait shops in town are always a good source of up-to-date information.
