Manistee Fishing Report: July 2015

The fishing here on the Big Lake in Manistee is pretty good. Some nice kings are showing up. We are averaging 8-12 pounders and occasionally picking some up that are weighing 15-20 pounds. The water is still pretty cold, and as the lake continues to warm up, the fishing will get even better. Anglers are catching brown trout and kings off the pier because the water is cold. They are also using live bait off the piers as well.

Anglers are also finding good numbers of baitfish in the harbor as well. They are mostly spoon fishing in the harbor but in 150-200 foot we are picking up kings on meat rigs and lake trout are in the 80-100 foot of water, with the majority of them hitting on dodgers and spin and glo’s. As the lake warms up we should start catching more steelhead and the king fishing should just keep getting better. We see more bait fish around, which is a good sign! Hope to see you out on the water.
